Why I'm Running:
I strongly believe that working people and families are the backbone of any healthy community. Right now, we are seeing and feeling the consequences of a decades-long divestment in working people, families, and small businesses, in favor of policies that benefit more affluent community members and visitors. If we don't start supporting the people and institutions that make our town a desirable and affordable place to live for working families, we risk losing what makes this place unique—becoming just another coastal town where working families can’t afford to stay and raise their children.
I grew up here, and I’m raising my family here. I know we can do better. With thoughtful leadership and a commitment to putting working families first, we can preserve Port Townsend’s character while making it a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
My Top Priorities:
Housing Affordability
- Support local nonprofits, builders, and housing organizations by removing barriers and streamlining processes
- Focus city resources on making it easier for those already doing the work rather than creating new bureaucracy
- Ensure zoning changes actually help working families
Infrastructure & Public Services
- Prioritize essential infrastructure repairs and improvements that support both residents and local businesses
- Ensure city services are efficient, accessible, and responsive to community needs
- Plan for long-term sustainability while managing current budget constraints
Supporting Local Economy
- Champion policies that help local businesses thrive year-round
- Ensure our workforce can afford to live where they work
- Balance tourism benefits with the needs of full-time residents
Reducing Financial Burden on Families
- Expand income-based discount programs for city utilities and services
- Implement scaled fee structures to address disparities in new home construction
- Review and adjust regressive fees that disproportionately impact working families
Environmental Stewardship
- Advance climate resilience and sustainability initiatives that protect our natural environment
- Support practical solutions for sea level rise and other environmental challenges
- Promote conservation efforts that preserve what makes Port Townsend special
Transparent & Responsive Government
- Ensure all voices are heard in city decision-making, especially working families
- Bring fresh perspective while respecting our community's values and character
- Ask the hard questions about how city policies and practices help or hurt local families
Collaborative Leadership & Civil Dialogue
- Foster respectful debate and genuine listening in city decision-making
- Build bridges across different perspectives while standing firm on core values
- Ensure productive collaboration without compromising on what matters most to working families
